VW 502.00 motor oils appeared on the market in 1997. They were made to replace obsolete products with VW 501.01 and 500.00 specifications. Their properties comply with the ACEA A3 class. These lubricants have high-temperature viscosity of over 3.5 mPa·s. The SAPS content is below 1.5%, with phosphorus content below 0.8%.
