Main characteristics of motor oils with dexos2 specification
Dexos2 motor oils have been available on the lubricant market since 2011. They are used on many modern vehicles. They were introduced to replace obsolete GM LL B-025 lubricants. These oils have the characteristics of the ACEA C3 motor oils class. They are low-ash lubricants.
- This specification was developed by General Motors. It is assigned to lubricants which were tested and meet the requirements of the engine and lubrication system of Chevrolet and Opel models.
- Dexos2 motor oils were primarily designed for diesel engines equipped with particulate filters. In Europe they can also be used in petrol vehicles whose exhaust systems feature a catalytic converter. For instance, this applies to GM Ecotec Family 1 engines of 1.8 litre capacity installed on Z18XER and A18XER versions.
- Lubricants that meet this specification’s requirements promote fuel economy and efficiently lubricate the engine even in cold start conditions.
- Most dexos2 motor oils have a viscosity of 5W-30. However, there are also 0W-30, 5W-20, 0W-40, and 5W-40 products. In most cases they are produced on the basis of synthetic components.
