Main characteristics of motor oils with MB 229.5 specification
MB 229.5 motor oils first appeared in 2002. They are suitable for diesel and petrol engines of modern and older models. They are comparable with lubricants of the ACEA A3, B3, and B4 classes in terms of their quality and properties.
- This specification was issued by the Daimler Group. Oils of this specification can be used on Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars.
- These lubricants are suitable for most engines of passenger cars of these makes, excluding those equipped with particulate filters. There are also some limitations in the use of these oils in the M119, M166, M155, and M104 petrol engines. That’s why, before purchasing MB 229.5 motor oil, always read your vehicle manual to make sure that the oil is suitable for your exact car.
- Typically, MB 229.5 motor oils have 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, or 5W-40 viscosity. They are produced on a synthetic or semi-synthetic base.
- Due to high total base number (less than 10), these products efficiently protect the engine from corrosion and prevent formation of deposits over a long period. They belong to the category of products with extended replacement intervals.
