Characteristics of SAE 10W-60 engine oil
- SAE 10W-60 engine oils are mostly designed for highly-loaded sport engines, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged ones. These lubricants are often used in racing competitions. Alongside this, they can be used for everyday relaxed driving.
- The number 10 indicates the low-temperature properties of this lubricant. When it is used, the engine can be started in severe cold conditions: down to −25 °C. The high-temperature characteristics correspond to the 40 grade: the kinematic viscosity of the lubricant varies within the 21.9–26.1 mm2/s range. The dynamic viscosity is 3.7 mPa·s.
- The products of this viscosity are stable to oxidation and retain their working properties even when becoming very hot.
- Typically these oils have a synthetic base.
- These lubricants are produced in various containers: plastic bottles and canisters of 1-, 4- and 5-litre capacity, in 10-, 20-, 60- and 208-litre barrels, and 1000-litre tanks.
- These oils are produced by Castrol, Motul, Champion, Ravenol, Kroon Oil, Valvoline, and other manufacturers.
