The production run of Isuzu Gemini lasted from 1974 to 2000. During this time, three generations and two restylings of the model have been released. The cars were assembled in Fujisawa, Japan.

The first generation of the Isuzu Gemini cars was released in 1974. The model was based on the Opel Kadett C and was initially called Isuzu Belett Gemini. The design of the car was defined by combination of streamline lines and angular shapes. The round headlights in square niches played nicely with the radiator grille, which was decorated with two chrome inlays. The outer mirror housings were placed on the hood. The passenger compartment of the Isuzu Gemini was quite comfortable. The seats had headrests and offered decent lateral support. The body line-up was composed of sedan and coupe models.

In 1977, the design of the Isuzu Gemini was slightly updated. The most notable changes affected the exterior of the front part of the car: the headlights became rectangular, and the radiator grille has been redesigned.

In 1979, a full restyling was performed on the Isuzu Gemini line-up. The design of the car underwent significant changes. The front part of the car has been embellished with rectangular headlights with integrated turn indicators, and a new radiator grille with rectangular cells. The front and rear bumpers were now painted black.

The second generation of the Isuzu Gemini has debuted in 1985 and received the name of Isuzu Gemini FF. The design of the new model was performed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The body shapes became more angular. The rectangular headlights and tapering hood were stylish and modern at the time of the car’s release. The radiator grille, a wide molding encompassing the whole body, and the outer mirror housings were painted black. The second generation of the cars had spoon-shaped Recaro seats, upholstered in quality synthetic leather. Sedan and three-door hatchback models were available. The second generation of the car has not been sold in Europe until the restyling.

In 1987, the design of the model was slightly updated. Following their presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the cars entered the European market. The exterior did not see significant change. The designers reviewed the headlights, radiator grille and bumpers. The dashboard has been updated. New cabin trim options appeared. It was decided to give up the FF letter index in the cars’ name. The production of these cars lasted until 1990.

The debut of the third generation of the Isuzu Gemini took place in 1990. The car received a stylish and modern design. The lines of the body became more streamline, which highlighted the new, narrow, oval headlights. A strong feature of these cars’ exterior was a lack of a radiator grille. The body line-up consisted of sedans, coupes and three-door hatchbacks. In 1993, the model ceased to be sold as Isuzu Gemini. It has been renamed to Honda Domani.

Isuzu Gemini cars were also known under other names. In Australia and New Zealand, they were known as Holden Gemini, in the US and Canada - Opel Isuzu, Buick Opel, Isuzu I-Mark, Chevrolet Spectrum, Geo Spectrum and Pontiac Sunburst, in South Korea - Saehan Gemini, Saehan Maepsy, Daewoo Max, in Malaysia and Thailand - Opel Gemini.
