Volkswagen Transporter
Volkswagen Transporter has been produced since 1950 till present. In total, six generations and five restylings of the model have been presented. Over the years, these cars have been manufactured in Germany, Russia, Poland and in other countries. Outside Europe, assembling of these cars was carried out in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and in Republic of South Africa. The model won the Van of the Year competition for three times: in 1992, 2004 and 2016.
Volkswagen Transporter 1950–1990
The first stock car under the name Volkswagen Transporter T1 was released in Wolfsburg in 1950. Till 1990, three generations of the model and three restylings were presented.
The car borrowed the engine and transmission from Volkswagen Beetle. Common features were traced in design also: the same smooth lines of the body and protruding round headlights. The big company logo and the 2-piece windscreen made the exterior of the car recognisable.
The second generation of Volkswagen Transporter T2 was released in 1967. Cars received a one-piece windscreen; each car had a sliding door on the front passenger side. On the dashboard there were ventilation deflectors.
Volkswagen Transporter T3 of the third generation debuting in 1979, had a new design of the exterior. The slope angle of the windscreen was increased so the front part of the car seemed protruding. The reduced radiator grille and the updated bumper made of black plastic visually made the car less massive.
Central lock, tachometer, heated seats, headlight wipers, air conditioner, electrically adjusted mirrors and other things were included in the basic equipment of the cars. The top Caravelle Carat package was equipped with cast disks, front spoiler, illumination of steps, a folding table. Seats had suede upholstery.
The model was produced in two-door and four-door pickup, van and minibus body types. After the restyling, which took place in 1982, cars of the third generation were produced till 1992.
Volkswagen Transporter T4
Release of the fourth generation of the model was carried out in 1990-1997. The car received new design, and its principal specifications were considerably improved. The frontal arrangement of the engine became a key feature of Volkswagen Transporter T4. The exterior of the car became more modern. The radiator grille was updated, lines of the body became more rounded, front headlights got a rectangular shape. The line of bodies consisted of pickups, minibuses, vans and campervans.
Volkswagen Transporter T4 restyling
In 1997 restyling of Volkswagen Transporter of the fourth generation took place. Minor changes concerned the radiator grille, design of headlights and other elements of the exterior and the interior. Large bumpers painted in the colour of the body were installed on the cars.
Volkswagen Transporter T5
Production of the models of the fifth generation started in 2003. The design of the car became more modern though in general changes were slight. The list of options was expanded, and in the line of bodies the chassis appeared.
Volkswagen Transporter T5 restyling
In 2009 at the motor show in Frankfurt a restyling of Volkswagen Transporter T5 was shown. Updates concerned radiator grilles, front wings, bumpers, headlights and bonnet.
Volkswagen Transporter T6
In 2015 in Amsterdam the sixth generation of Volkswagen Transporter was presented. In general, the car exterior became more elegant and more modern: it had two-colour interior trimming of the passenger compartment, contrast seams, the updated dashboard, the steering wheel was covered with leather. All these features were stylishly combined with cutting-edge equipment. Changes in the exterior were slight.
