Production of the Cadillac XLR luxury cars lasted from 2003 to 2009. The cars were assembled in Kentucky, USA. In 2004, the model was nominated for the prestigious "North American Car of the Year" award.

History of the Cadillac XLR model began with the Cadillac Evoq concept car, which was presented in January 1999 at the North American International Auto Show. The production Cadillac XLR car debuted at the Auto Show in Detroit in 2003.

The car was based on the Y platform, developed by General Motors. The platform was borrowed from the fifth generation Chevrolet Corvette model, production of which stopped in 2004. The Cadillac XLR cars were produced in the roadster body.

The model had a memorable stylish exterior design. The automobile received a folding rigid aluminum roof and 18-inch alloy wheels. Another feature of the car was a unique suspension.

The Cadillac XLR interior design combined luxury and comfort. The interior was trimmed with wood. Standard equipment included leather seats with heating and ventilation functions. The basic package also included side airbags, navigation, audio and DVD- systems, their ease of control was ensured by a 7-inch color screen. Besides, a remote engine start system was provided for the Cadillac XLR cars.

The Cadillac XLR model was the first production car of the company with a radar adaptive cruise control system(ACC).

In 2005 at the International Motor Show in New York the Cadillac XLR-V modification was unveiled. The vehicle received a new heavy-duty engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the radiator grille and the air intake changed.

The Cadillac XLR-V car standard equipment featured the MRC system (Magnetic Ride Control), which allowed to change the stiffness of shock absorbers for a more comfortable ride on roads with different surfaces.

In 2009, the Cadillac XLR model was facelifted. The automobile received updated front and rear bumpers. The changes also affected the interior. Alcantara material, a synthetic fabric of textile microfibers, was used to trim the ceiling in the cabin. Besides, the cars got an upgraded instrument panel.

The Cadillac XLR model production was discontinued in the spring of 2009. The last car left the assembly line on March 31.
