The Hyundai Stellar sedans were produced from 1983 to 1992. During the years of production two generations of the model were released.

Production of the first generation of Hyundai Stellar began in 1983. The car was developed on the basis of Ford Cortina V. Giorgetto Giugiaro directed creation of design of the exterior of the car.

The car had a rear-wheel drive. The power unit was settled down cross in the front part of a body. The wheelbase of the car made 2 579 mm. Front wheels were equipped with disc brakes, and rear wheels — with brakes of drum type. The car had a front two-lever and rear spring suspensions.

Between wide rectangular head lights of the car there was a rectangular chromeplated radiator grille. Massive plastic bumpers and rectangular side mirrors were painted in the colour of the body.

On the hood there was power bulges continuing lines of the radiator grille. In the heel of the doors of Hyundai Stellar there were wide moldings. The rear optics of the car was assembled in two large rectangular blocks.

For an additional fee the Hyundai Stellar cars were equipped with the air conditioner, the hydraulic power steering, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) modified dashboard, improved audio system, and also the electric drive of side mirrors.

In interior of Hyundai Stellar four passenger seats were provided. The trunk volume was 380 liters. The production of the first generation of the model continued till 1987.

In 1987 production of Hyundai Stellar of the second generation was arranged. The car was equipped with new head lights and the modernized rear optics. Also the car received a front independent suspension of MacPherson type and the improved braking system.

As an additional option, alloy discs from an aluminum alloy were offered. In Canada at extra charge the car could be equipped with Michelin tires. Production of the second generation of Hyundai Stellar continued till 1992.

On the domestic market of South Korea the car was on sale under the name of Hyundai Sonata.
