Daewoo MatizDaewoo Matiz models were being manufactured from 1998 to 2011. There were three generations of the model and two restylings in the market. Cars were manufactured in Poland, Italy, Romania, and also in Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Korea, India and on Taiwan.
Daewoo Matiz M100Cars of the first generation were being released from 1998 to 2001. The design of the model was developed by the known Italian studio ItalDesign Giugiaro. Initially it was intended for Fiat. The management of the Italian concern thought that the project was too expensive and risky and refused a realization of the Italdesign Lucciola concept car, presented at the Bologna Motor Show in 1993. As a result sketches of the model were acquired by the Daewoo Motors company.
In 1998 the first car under the name Daewoo Matiz was manufactured. The premiere of the model took place at the Geneva Motor Show. The design was so successful that the car became the best seller of all Daewoo vehicle in Europe. Distinctive feature of these cars were round headlights and strongly slanted hood which smoothly turnedinto a windshield. The model was produced in a body of a five-door hatchback.
Daewoo Matiz M150In 2000 restyling of the first generation of Daewoo Matiz was carried out. The premiere of the updated model took place at the Paris Motor Show. The main changes concerned design of the front part. The cap of a hood had an effective power bulge and figured edge, direction indicators became round. The bumper was updated. Moldings of black color were installed on cars.
Daewoo Matiz M200The second generation of the model with the M200 index was produced from 2005 to 2007. In 2001 the General Motors company purchased shares of South Korean producer Daewoo, and from this time in the majority of the countries the Daewoo Matiz cars began to be sold under the name of Chevrolet Spark. The old name remained only for the market of South Korea.
The design of cars was updated slightly: direction indicators were integrated into head lights, and tail lights got a round shape. Lines of the body became streamline, and power bulge on a hood and the subwindow line of irregular shape visually enlarged the car.
Daewoo Matiz M250In 2007 restyling of Daewoo Matiz took place. Minor changes concerned a design of head and rear lights, a radiator grille and bumper. Also some elements of an interior were updated. With release of cars of the third generation these cars were renamed into Daewoo Matiz Classic.
Daewoo Matiz Creative M300In 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show the premiere of Daewoo Matiz M300 model took place. The design of the car was completely updated, and the word “Creative” appeared in the name of the model. The Daewoo Matiz Creative cars were sold in South Korea only.
Externally cars of the third generation were more aggressive and more solid than the previous models. Many elements of an exterior were borrowed from the Chevrolet Beat concept car presented at the Motor Show in New York in 2007. The serial model of Daewoo Matiz Creative inherited large almond-shaped headlights, a massive radiator grille and a big bumper with an air intake cuts from the conceptual car . In South Korea these cars were manufactured under the name of Daewoo before its abolition in 2011. Later the model continued to be produced under the Chevrolet brand.
Daewoo Matiz in the markets of the different countriesThe Daewoo Matiz cars were on sale under other names also: in Western Europe, Africa, South America and the USA as Chevrolet Spark, in India and Pakistan — as Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Joy, in Australia and New Zealand — as Holden Barina Spark, in Russia, Uzbekistan and Pakistan — as Ravon R2. Also the model was available as Chevrolet Matiz and Pontiac Matiz G2.
