Daewoo Kalos model was being released from 2002 to 2007. Production of these cars was arranged in South Korea. In Europe, sales of these cars lasted until 2005.

The hatchback concept under the name Daewoo Kalos was presented for the first time in 2000 at the Paris Motor Show. One year later at the Frankfurt Motor Show the presentation of one more concept car — Daewoo Kalos Dream - took place. The design of both novelties was developed by the known Italdesign studio.

The premiere of production model took place in 2002 at the Geneva Motor Show. The novelty was presented in a five-door hatchback and a sedan body type. The car adopted the main lines of design from the concept cars presented earlier. The streamline body, relief wheel arches and a short slanted hood looked stylishly and were modern. The raised rear part of the body and effective power bulges of sidewalls added some dynamism to the exterior. A front part of the car was decorated with trapezoid headlights with the built-in direction indicators, an accurate bumper and a radiator grille with the chromeplated insert. Bumpers and cases of exterior mirrors were painted in the colour of the body. Additional rear windows were a distinctive feature of an exterior of these cars: they visually enlarged the car and made the interior more spacious.

In the inner trimming inexpensive cloth and plastic were used. Dials of devices, air vents and switch buttons had the round shape. The driver's seat could be displaced forward/back and had the back, regulated on a discharge angle.

The Daewoo Kalos cars had a quite varied package where there were a central lock, a hydraulic power steering, an adjustable steering column, power windows, electric mirrors and driver's seat, an air conditioner, xenon headlights, cast wheel disks, a signalling system, DVD player and other equipment. Production of the Daewoo Kalos cars for the European market was carried out till 2005. In South Korea the release of this model was stopped in 2007.

Daewoo Kalos cars are known also under other names. In the USA these cars were on sale as Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Kalos, and also Pontiac Wave, Holden Barina, Suzuki Swift+.
