With the BRILLIANT TOOLS installation tool for shock absorbers with tension stop springs BT651100, the McPherson spring struts can be stretched to the maximum length required and a new spring can quickly and easily be secured into position. The tool is especially suited for spring struts that are equipped with strong inner springs (tension stop springs), which the piston rods pull partially into the damper tubes. Tension stop springs installed in some shock absorbers (spring struts) are intended to prevent damage to the spring struts if they “spring up and out” during driving. The spring is directly inside the shock absorber and is not strained when the vehicle remains parked while in gear, despite the load. The spring only activates when the spring strut reaches full extension during compression. Using tension stop springs has otherwise no effect on normal spring functions. However, there is a clear disadvantage when removing and installing the spring strut because the piston rods reaches the spring strut after the spring load is removed. In this way, installing a new spring is difficult because the spring strut does not remain compressed. Inner bearing pullers: what you need to know
Inner Bearing Pullers are special tools designed for dismantling bushings, bearings, crankshaft couplings and other spares located in deep grooves and hard-to-reach places.
What are the types of inner bearing pullers?
By the design of the gripping part:
- With a collet design. Used for removing parts gripping the external collar if there is very little space behind them.
- With a claw design. Provide a tight grip. However, they require some space behind the element.
- Blind housing pullers. Intended for dismounting parts with an interference fit on both internal and external rings. Two opposed adapters fitted with ball-shaped thickenings are inserted between the external and internal bearing collars. When they are rotated 90 degrees, they grip the bearing race.
By operating principle:
- With a power bolt. The design of these tools features cross arms with a rod. As the screw is being turned, the bearing comes out together with the puller.
- With a slide hammer. Comprise a rod with a hammer sliding along it and an attachment point. The spare is dismounted due to shock impulses. These tools are excellent for removing deep set or stuck car parts.
Tips on using inner bearing pullers.
The succession of steps when using tools of a different design might differ. For example, working with blind housing pullers requires removing the seal and drilling bearing separator first. The more detailed information you can get from the equipment instructions.
When performing the works, make sure that the rod of the cross arms or the shaft of the hammer were at right angles to the body of the spare you’re dismounting. The incorrect position of the tool can lead to its failure, damage the part or its seat.
