The production of Suzuki SJ 410 started in 1981 in Japan, and continued until 1988. In March 1985, assembly was also organized in Spain, where the car was produced by the Santana Motor S.A., in India and in Indonesia.

Suzuki SJ 410 replaced Suzuki LJ 80. Suzuki SJ 410 Van Panel, Suzuki SJ 410 Cabrio, and Suzuki SJ 410 Pick-Up left the assembly line. Suzuki SJ 410 Long cars with elongated wheelbase were also available. The standard wheelbase was 2,030 mm long, and the elongated one — 2,375 mm long.

The feature of Suzuki SJ 410 exterior was angular body shape. The car got round headlights, a radiator grill with vertical slats, and protruding wheel arches.

The model had high off-road characteristics and had front and rear drum brakes. In the last years of production, the car was equipped with front disc brakes. Power steering was not available in any configuration.

The car was perfect for transportation of small freights. Its maximum carrying capacity was 350 kg.

In the 1985, Suzuki SJ 410 was replaced in the market by Suzuki SJ 413.

Suzuki SJ 410 is the name of second generation Suzuki Jimny cars intended for export. On the Australian market from 1985 until 1987, Suzuki SJ 410 was called Holden Drover.

In Indonesia, Suzuki SJ 410 was produced by the PT. IndoMobil Suzuki International company. Here soft-top cars were called Suzuki Sierra, and hard-top cars — Suzuki Jimny. In the end of the 1980s, rear wheel drive Suzuki Katana was shown.

In India, Suzuki SJ 410 has been manufactured until now as Maruti Gypsy. Cars with elongated wheelbase only are available. In the Indian market, Maruti Gypsy King cars are also available, which are manufactured by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. The cars are widely used by the Indian armed forces and police units.
