The Peugeot 604 luxury car, assembled only in the sedan body, was produced by the French company from 1975 to 1985. The car was made in France and South Korea.

Encouraged by the success of Peugeot 504 models, the French auto giant's management decided to establish the production of an executive class car, which doesn’t appear in the Peugeot model range since the 1930s.

The debut of Peugeot 604 took place in March 1975 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has received a simple and laconic exterior from the world-renowned Italian company Pininfarina’s designers. The design of the front of the car, thanks to the separate headlamps and chrome finish, evoked association with the Mercedes range.

The production of high-powered cars amidst the 1973 oil crisis was a very courageous decision for Peugeot. To reduce costs when creating a new model, much has been borrowed from the Peugeot 504 model - such as the chassis, doors and even the passenger compartment.

The size of the sedan has been impressive - 4.72 m long, 1.43 m high and 1.77 m wide, so the salon was spacious and comfortable, and the luggage compartment - roomy. Among the available additional options, leather upholstery, air conditioning and an electric roof hatch coud be chosen.

In the last years of production motorists often complained about the quality of these vehicles. Among other factors, figured such instances as the lack of technical innovation, a low level of productivity, high fuel consumption, and predisposition to body corrosion. Thus, production of Peugeot 604 was discontinued, even without a direct successor to the release.

In 1979 Chrysler’s European Department entered the Peugeot group, which has been producing cars under the Talbot name, and in the early 1980s, Peugeot 604 cars were produced under the name of Talbot Tagora.
