The production of Hyundai XG was arranged from 1998 to 2005. During this time the producer presented two generations of the model in sedan body type. The production was arranged in South Korea.

The concept of Hyundai Avatar was presented on February 7, 1998 at the Motor Show in Chicago. The car for a mass production debuted at the Seoul Motor Show.

A big comfortable interior was a distinctive feature of the car with dimensions of 4865х1825x1420 mm. The back row of seats was designed for two passengers, but there was a place for three passangers if the armrest with a niche for storage of things was hidden. The driver's seat is equipped with various settings which allow to create a maximum comfort, proceeding from anatomic features and own preferences.

The covering of seats and doors haa the same colour as the informative dashboard. Buttons of climate control switching were placed on a convenient steering wheel. For finishing of the central console the producer used the material imitating wooden.

The Hyundai XG cars differed in good running characteristics which was provided by the elaborated suspender design, a track width and a long wheelbase. On turning movements the car didn't heel and didn't bend by the front part at emergency braking. The anti-lock brake system (ABS), disc brakes and the brake-force distribution system were responsible for it.

Side and frontal airbags, leather interior, the central lock, an immobilizer, the rain sensor, heating of seats and mirrors, climate control system, the electropower steering, the audio system with four loudspeakers, light-alloy discs were included in the basic modification.

In 2003 the producer presented restyling of Hyundai XG of the first generation at the market. The exterior of the car was changed slightly: developers established new air intakes, flashlights of turn indicators were shifted from the side panel to the bumper corners. Also there was a new body kit into which the improved fog lights with transparent glass were integrated. In an interior there were no considerable changes: the new multimedia system with the informative screen was installed.

In South Korea the Hyundai XG cars were on sale as Hyundai Grandeur XG. In some markets such names of Hyundai XG were also known: Hyundai XG25, Hyundai XG30, Hyundai XG300, Hyundai XG350.
