Production of Hyundai Genesis sedans and coupes began in 2008 and has been carried out till nowadays. Cars are being manufactured in Ulsan, South Korea. Two generations and one restyling of Hyundai Genesis were presented in the market.

The presentation of Hyundai Genesis Concept took place in 2007 at the New York International Auto Show. In January, 2008, the series car was presented at the North American International Auto Show. Production of the first generation was arranged from October, 2008 to November, 2011.

Experts from the Hyundai design center, located in Irvine, the State of California, worked on the exterior of Hyundai Genesis coupe. The new car differed in sports style of the body and good aerodynamics.

The car had excellent running characteristics: by simple settings it was possible to increase a road clearance of the car by 30 mm for comfortable driving on a low-quality roadbed. Automatic reduction of road clearance at achievement of the speed of 120 km/h was characteristic of Hyundai Genesis. As an option, the EAS suspension which provided the maximum smoothness of the driving course, was offered.

Developers established HID optics which differed in power efficiency and light intensity. Such headlights provide the excellent visibility at night time, without blinding other drivers that travel in the opposite road side.

Developers made the driver's seat very comfortable, added functions of heating and multilevel settings. Basic modification had a system of climate control with rain and moisture sensors, a safety curtain with the electric drive on rear screens, automatic window wipers, the ESC system, eight advanced airbags.

Opaque metal inserts, genuine leather upholstery of seats, small transmission lever, three-spoke wheel, stylish dashboard, sports pedals were distinctive features of the Hyundai Genesis interior.

Basic modification of Hyundai Genesis coupe had airbags (including side airbags), curtain airbags, active head restraints, Brembo brakes.

In May, 2011, the restyled model of Hyundai Genesis of the first generation was presented. Changes concerned an exterior generally. Developers improved headlights and tail lights, having added light-emitting diodes and chrome-plated inserts. Also both bumpers, fog lights, a radiator grill, an exhaust pipe were changed, there was illumination of doors near side mirrors.

In the interior of Hyundai Genesis there were no considerable changes. Materials were the same, but quality of seams was improved, seats became more ergonomic, and all details of the dashboard were ideally adjusted.

Production of the updated Hyundai Genesis ended in November, 2013.

In 2011 the presentation of the Hyundai Genesis cars of the second generation for domestic market of South Korea took place, and in November, 2013, at the international Detroit Motor Show the world premiere of this model took place.

Developers decorated the front part of the restyled sedans with the trapezoid chrome-plated radiator grill, new headlights and fog flashlights with light-emitting diodes. The producer established a new rear bumper and wide exhaust pipes which emphasized dynamic and sports style of the car.

Changes in the interior of Hyundai Genesis concerned the central console and elements of steering. On the dashboard developers installed electroluminescent sensors so it was even more convenient to read out information from devices. The inner trimming was made of soft leather and high-quality plastic.

In China Hyundai Genesis was on sale as Hyundai Rohens and Hyundai Rohens Coupe.
