Chevrolet Volt is a hybrid car, produced by the General Motors company since 2011. It is presented by only one body type - a five-door hatchback. Production is carried out in the US, at the GM plant in Detroit. The Chevrolet Volt was named the best European car in 2012, twice (in 2010 and 2015) was recognized as "Green Car of the Year" in the contest, conducted by Green Car Journal. In 2011, it was awarded the highest rating for the results of the Euro NCAP crash test.

The Chevrolet Volt first made a public appearance at the beginning of 2007 at the Auto Show in Detroit as a concept car, the design of which was developed by a Frenchwoman Anne Asensio. Originally, inspired by the presented a year earlier Tesla Roadster electric car, the GM management planned to create a fully electric car, but then, because of the high cost of the battery and the lack of public spaces to replenish their charge, it was decided to build a hybrid, in which the gasoline engine would generate power for the electric motor.

It took three years to create a production vehicle, release of which started in December 2010. Chevrolet Volt shared the Delta II platform with the Chevrolet Cruze model. The hybrid exterior looks stylish and unusual: complex shape head lights, closed to achieve better aerodynamic performance (0.28) decorative grille slots, large bumpers, flowing lines of the tailgate with a spoiler.

The Chevrolet Volt interior is a four-seater (the second row consists of two separate seats): battery cells are hidden in a high central tunnel. Batteries are also located in the luggage compartment, limiting the useful volume to 300 liters. Front seats have comfortable integral side bolsters, the dashboard is presented by an informative display, the second display, which shows information about the car's engines, is located on the center console, trimmed in white plastic.

The Chevrolet Volt cars are able to overcome 40 to 80 km on battery power, depending on the riding speed.

In early 2015 at the International Auto Show in Detroit, the presentation of the second-generation Chevrolet Volt was held, which came even closer to full electric vehicles. The sleek body of the updated Chevrolet Volt has become longer, lower and 114 kg lighter than its predecessor, aerodynamic stamping has appeared on the hood and sides of the body, the shape of the headlights and the radiator grille cover up plates has changed. All elements of the interior trim, that has finally become a five-seater, have a rounded shape. The front panel and the center console are ergonomic, the interface of both information displays has become much more convenient.

Energy of the advanced battery is now enough for the course of 80 km, while it is fully charged in 4.5 hours.

In Australia and New Zealand the hybrid vehicle from GM is known as the Holden Volt, in the UK - the Vauxhall Ampera, and in the rest of Europe it is sold under the Opel Ampera brand name.
