Production of the Chevrolet Kalos cars continued from 2003 to 2008. Initially, the model was made in South Korea. Later, in different years the auto assembly was carried out in Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, China, India, Thailand, Egypt and Mexico. Thanks to their compact size, maneuverability, modern design and efficiency the vehicles quickly gained worldwide recognition.

In April 2002, at the Geneva Motor Show the Daewoo Kalos prototype was presented. The car design was developed by the Italian company Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. Until the end of 2004 the cars were sold under the name Daewoo Kalos in Western Europe. At the beginning of 2005 the Chevrolet brand came to replace the Daewoo brand came, and the model was renamed to the Chevrolet Kalos.

The car was built on the Daewoo T200 platform. The cars were produced in sedan and three-door and five-door hatchback. The model had peculiar features in the exterior design in different countries. So, the cars, that went on sales in 2002 in the market of South Korea, and later in the North American market, had orange direction indicators located under the headlamps. Between the front lights there was a semi-circular front grille. When in 2003 the sales started in Europe, headlights and turn lights were integrated in the headlight clusters. The grille got a V-shape.

The five-door hatchback and sedan had stampings on the side of the body. The three-door hatchback featured side moldings, located on the door.

The basic package of the Chevrolet Kalos model included six-way adjustable seats, the Isofix mounting system for child seats, a tilt adjustable steering column. The instrument panel had the tachometer, speedometer, odometer, trip odometer scales, as well as level of fuel and coolant temperature indicators. An electric sunroof and heated side mirrors were offered as additional options.

In 2006 The Chevrolet Kalos sedan cars gave way to a modernized car with a new name Chevrolet Aveo, which debuted at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2005. The Chevrolet Aveo hatchback debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007 and went on sale in early 2008.

In 2004, The Chevrolet Kalos model went on sale in the US and Canadian markets. Here the car was called the Chevrolet Aveo. Sedans and five-door hatchbacks went on sale in November 2003. The automobile for the North American market was presented in February 2003 at the Chicago Auto Show.
