Ignition coil ML W163

Before you start replacing components, make absolutely sure that you have disconnected the negative terminal from the battery: performing any work with live high-voltage wires is dangerous.

When the common ignition coil is replaced on the MERCEDES-BENZ M-Class (W163) vehicles, install new wires and fastening bolts: faulty wiring is often the cause of the ignition system failure, while the fasteners loosened by excessive vibration cause premature failure of the ignition coil.

To loosen rusted fasteners, use special liquid like WD-40. Excessive effort when trying to loosen a bolt may result in its damage.

During installation of coils, never use impact tools. They are to be installed with hands only. Tightening threaded joints will require a torque wrench.

To protect wires from oxidation, treat their ends with grease for electrical contacts.

Start the engine and assess its operation. If installation of the component on the MERCEDES-BENZ M-Class (W163) vehicle has been performed correctly, the engine should run smoothly and without interruptions.

Clear the diagnostic trouble code on the MERCEDES-BENZ M-Class (W163) car onboard computer with a special diagnostic scanner that can be found at a service station.
