Renault 11 model was produced by the Renault company from 1983 to 1989. Three-door and five-door hatchbacks bodies were offered. The model was designed together with Renault 9 sedan therefore they had much in common both in technical and design aspects. For years of release only one generation and restyling was presented. Release of cars for the European market was adjusted in France in Douai.

The official premiere of Renault 11 took place at the Geneva motor show in March, 1983. The car caused a great interest in the public in spite of the fact that sales of Renault 9 sedan were carried out more than a year. Special interest was caused by Renault 11 TXE Electronic modification. The car was equipped with technologies that were revolutionary for this class: the central lock with function of a distant unclosing of doors and the on-board computer with support of voice input. In these cars the button of radio tape recorder control was brought to a steering column for the first time in the world.

The compartment of Renault 11 was spacious and ergonomic. Convenient seats provided comfort even in the long-lasting trip. In expensive complete sets the dashboard, seat belts and other details of an interior had a beige colour that visually increased the compartment space.

Renault 11 differed in reliability, profitability and low cost of operation therefore enjoyed popularity among the taxi drivers. Special series were used by the French police and gendarmerie as official cars. The release of the movie about James Bond "A view to a kill" became the good advertisement for Renault 11: it was the car on which the agent 007 left persecutors and continued driving even after destructive collisions.

The debut of sport modification of Renault 11 Turbo took place in 1984 at the Geneva motor show. The car differed in the improved principal specifications and sport design. Halogen lamps of head light, fog lights, window regulators, the central lock, roof hatch and the manual conditioner were presented as the basic equipment of Renault 11 Turbo. The compartment differed in the two-colour upholstery, sport seats and a four-spoke steering wheel.

The restyling of Renault 11 was carried out in 1986. Double square headlights were replaced be the rectangular ones, the radiator grille got the lining panel similar to the colour of the body, the air inlets form changed. Also the dashboard was updated, there were new options of the compartment upholstery.

Release of Renault 11 was carried out outside Europe. In Argentina these cars were produced till 1994, in Turkey — till 1995. In the USA the model was released till 1987 and was on sale under the name Renault Encore.
