Renault Twingo I generationThe stylish three-door hatchback was presented at the motor show in Paris in 1992. A year later mass production of the model began. Thanks to an initiative of the designer Yves Dubreil, Renault Twingo received original design of an exterior which at once became to the motorists’ taste.
Cars of the first generation had the effective rounded-off front headlights, a wide plastic slip on a front bumper and strongly slanted line of a cowl which smoothly passed into windshield racks. Renault Twingo got the nickname "face de grenouille" — "a face of a frog" because of the image of an amphibious embodied in the design. Production of the first generation proceeded till 1997.

In 1998 the first restyling of Renault Twingo of the first generation was released. Designers placed a wide black moulding with a narrow radiator grille under front headlights in the center of it, changed the form of rear optics, the dashboard and internal door handles.
During the second restyling in 2000 the brake system of the car was substantially improved, and the design of the dashboard was changed also. In a basic complete set there was a warning system that signaled if the driver seat belt was not fastened.
