Replace brake pads on FIAT PUNTO (188) in pairs for each axle. It ensures efficient braking
For convenient demounting of rear brake drum shoes we recommend to remove the wheel hub.
Replace all four pads, if even one of them has got oil or grease. Remember that there is no way to completely clean a pad.
Clean the brake backplate on FIAT PUNTO (188). Treat all the adjacent surfaces of the brake pads and the brake backplate with anti-squeak grease on both sides.
Clean the brake drum.
When replacing the brake shoes use a new mounting kit.
Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system.
Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum. Upon reaching the ultimate degree of wear, replace the brake drum. Change the brake drums in pairs.
At every drum brake mechanism disassembly on FIAT PUNTO (188) perform replacement of hold down springs, hold down pins and spring cups.
Before installing the brake pads, make sure that the cable of the parking brake system is in the guide on the backplate.

Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Slow down smoothly for first 150-200 km after the brake pads replacement. Avoid unneccessary and sharp braking to a stop.
