MG Metro creation historyThe manufacture of the MG Metro model began in 1982. The design of the car was developed by David Bach and Harris Mann. The car was created on the Austin LC8 platform and was released in three and five door hatchback bodies as well as a van. MG Metro was the top selling compact model in the UK until 1984.
The front optics of the MG Metro was assembled into two rectangular blocks with a wide radiator grille and the license plate between them. A trapezoidal power bulge was placed on the hood. The car had stylish sports bumpers. Rectangular lights were located under the sloping rear door.
Due to adjustable independent suspension with hydragas shock absorbers the car had a smooth ride and excellent handling. MG Metro cars had a wheelbase of 2250 mm. The front wheels were mounted with disc brakes and the rear - with drum ones.
The car was equipped with reliable and economic power units and had high dynamic rates. Due to the model’s compactness, the owners of MG Metro were able to park their cars easily. The vehicle was perfect for big cities.
Three passenger seats were provided in the cabin. The floor cover and seat belts were red. Tachometer and speedometer indicators were placed in a deep rectangular recess on the dashboard. The seats were equipped with head restraints and had advanced lateral support. A luggage compartment had a volume of 180 liters.
The car’s basic package had power front windows and audio system. Front fog lights, on-board computer, power steering and leather seat upholstery were offered as additional options.
