Kia OpirusIn 2003 Kia Motor started production of the executive class sedan Kia Opirus. One generation and two restyling were introduced in the market. The assembly was carried out on the Kia Opirus Hwasung plant in the Republic of Korea and by the company "Autotor" in the Kaliningrad region, Russia. In 2005, this model was awarded «Most Appealing Premium Midsize Car» title.
Kia Opirus I generationKia Opirus was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003. In the same year it started mass production for the European and North American markets.
Exterior had many similar features of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar S-Type. Front bumper was decorated with four oval headlamps and a stylish chrome grille in between. Rear lights overlapped both the rear hood and sidewalls.
The central console was equipped with the color screen of the navigation system and other modern technologies of that time. The instrument panel was distinguished by a spectacular illumination: large white dials with scarlet arrows. Steering wheel was equipped with controls for different systems, including audio system. Front seats with lateral support were equipped with electric motors. Interior had an impressive sound insulation.
Kia Opirus vehicle was equipped with eight airbags, side and rear sunshade, electronic speedometer and audio system named Infinity. The basic model included ESP, ECS and IMS systems.
Kia Opirus I generation restylingIn 2007 Kia Opirus was restyled with new features. Designers retained the same looks of the exterior design with most changes affecting exterior lights. Rear lights were completely moved to the sidewalls. Kia Opirus achieved high ratings in crash tests conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Vehicle scored in the top tier for side impact protection. In 2009 designers made additional slight changes to the exterior. In 2010 all production was discontinued.
In the Korean market, Kia Opirus was replaced with Kia K9, in the US and Europe - Kia Cadenza.
Kia Opirus in different marketsFrom 2002 to 2011, Kia Opirus cars were produced for various markets, including Canada and the United States. In these countries, the model marketed as Kia Amanti.
