Kia Magentis

Production of Kia Magentis saloon started in 2001 and continued until 2010. During this time the manufacturer introduced two new generations and two style changes to the market. The vehicle was assembled in South Korea, China, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and the United States.

Kia Magentis 1st generation

Kia Magentis debuted in 2001 at the Paris Motor Show. This vehicle was the result of cooperation between Kia Motor and Hyundai Motor Company. It was built on the same platform as the Hyundai Sonata fourth generation.

The basic model was equipped with: air conditioning, driver's airbag, power door locks and power windows, fog lights, heated rear view mirror. Additional options offered leather upholstery and air quality control system. All cars were equipped with traction control system (TCS), antilock four-channel brake system (ABS), brake force distribution (EBD).

Kia Magentis I generation restyling

In 2003, the first generation went through restyling. Boxy rectangular headlamps were divided into two. Other changes included a new grill, improved bumper and enhanced fog lamps. Second-row passengers now could enjoy more leg space and a central armrest with two cup holders.

The basic package included two more airbags and traction control (ASR). The standard equipment included a rear-view mirror with anti-glare protection and gas shock absorbers for the trunk and the hood.

Kia Magentis II generation

At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005 manufacturer has presented the second generation.

New vehicles now had optimal size and improved level of security, modern design with sporty elements. Exterior of Kia Magentis has changed significantly. The elongated body has been decorated with a chrome strip on the windowsill line, chrome grille with expressive manufacturer’s nameplate.

Interior was designed in High-tech style. Front console equipment was easier to read, displays for climate control system and trip-computer were decorated with beautiful lighting. Designers have dropped inexpensive plastics in the interior. Instead, they added distinct silver lines that were in perfect harmony with dark materials of the dashboard and seats.

The Kia Magentis was designed with comfort for the driver and passengers in mind. The three screens in the central console displayed information about seat belts, current time, information about music files, settings for the climate control system.

Kia Magentis II generation restyling

Assembly of the new generation started in 2008. Brand new design offered smooth proportions and style, elegant body lines, transparent lenses in the headlights, new shape for rear lights.

The second generation Kia Magentis was equipped with new climate control, which now included air purification system, curtain airbags, full power accessories, electronic system of dynamic stabilization (ESP). Interior design has also been updated and now had options for fabric or leather, both available in grey or black color.

Kia Magentis in different markets

Since 2000, this model was marketed in South Korea as Kia Lotze or Kia K5. In the North American it was marketed as Kia Optima.
