Fiat 1500–2300Fiat 1500-2300 cars are the whole family of the passenger cars released by the Italian company from 1961 to 1968. It consisted of such models as Fiat 1500 (depending on engine location being called also Fiat 1300 and Fiat 1600), Fiat 1800 (also Fiat 2100) and Fiat 2300. Assembling was carried out at Zastava plants in Yugoslavia and Neckar Automobil AG, Fiat subsidiary in Germany. Under the license, cars were also produced by the Spanish firm SEAT.
Fiat 1300/1500/1600Production of Fiat 1500 began in April, 1961 with releasing of a four-door sedan. Its design bore a strong resemblance of Chevrolet Corvair that appeared approximately at the same time in the USA and become the fashion-maker in the European automotive industry of the 1960th years. The stylistic solution of the body in the form of two horizontal soldered shutters, and also head optics ( four round headlights located horizontally by couples at the left and at the right) was borrowed from the American car. At Fiat 1500 inner trimming much attention was paid to details and quality of materials.
In several months after the sedan went on sale, the five-door Fiat 1500 station wagon which had the identical length of a body, was presented at the Turin auto show. Since 1962 the park of official cars of police began to be completed with these cars that promoted increase in production. In 1962 the two-door compartment of Fiat 1500 was released, and a year later — Fiat 1500 Cabriolet.
Modification of Fiat 1500L was originally released in 1962 for taxi drivers and was a hybrid of already related models: Fiat 1500 (its engine has been borrowed) and Fiat 1800 (more spacious and convenient compartment). Later the car became available also to the ordinary buyer. It should be noted that externally Fiat 1500L had practically no differs with Fiat 1800.
In 1964 Fiat 1500C modification appeared, the model differed in the wheel base increased by 80 mm for ensuring bigger comfort to passengers of a back row. From other differences it is possible to note larger turn sygnals and also new (trapezoid three-section) back lights. Fiat 1500 cars were produced till 1966 when they were succeeded by Fiat 124, and in 1967 Fiat 1500C gave way to new Fiat 125 in a model range.
Fiat 1800/2100/2300At the Geneva motor show of 1959 the presentation of a four-door sedan of Fiat 1800 took place, several months later also five-door station wagon went on sale. Advertizing this car, the Fiat company began to place emphasis that station wagons are a vehicle intended not for work (as was considered in Europe at that time), but for comfortable active rest. At the end of 1959 the special Fiat section (Sezione Carrozzerie Speciali) presented the Fiat 2100 President version — more spacious and elaborated car that began to be used as the official car by top and the papal yard in Vatican.
In 1961 Fiat 1800 succeeded the updated Fiat 1800B (with new brakes and the engine), and Fiat 2100 has given way to Fiat 2300 that became available also in a coupe body.
In 1968 production of all range of Fiat 1800 cars was stopped with launching of a new Fiat 130 model.
