BMW 8 E31BMW 8 E31 model was produced from 1989 to 1999 at the plant in Dingolfing, Germany. The moving-forward headlights and unusual body style of a coupe were the distinctive features of the car.
History of creation of BMW 8 E31In 1989 at the showroom in Frankfurt the company for presented the serial BMW 8 model the first time. The car was created as the successor for BMW of 6 series.
The BMW company spent huge amounts of money for the development of this model. The greatest part of money were spent on the introduction of computer technologies of design which allowed to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car. Tests in a wind tunnel showed the reduction of front resistance more than for 25% in comparison with the previous cars of the concern.
BMW 8 model was equipped with the adjustable EDC suspender, the folding self-darkened side mirrors, seat belts built in chairs, the electronic gas pedal which is adjusted by a steering tube and an automatic adjustment of sensitivity of a steering wheel at different speeds. The passenger compartment was produced for four places only taking into account the driver's one.
In 1999 the production of this model was stopped. About 32 thousands of BMW 8 series cars descended from the conveyor totally. Today the car is highly appreciated in the secondary market for its unique design and high dynamic characteristics.
BMW 8 E31 AlpinaThe Alpina studio released limited number of the improved BMW 8 cars. Besides higher dynamic characteristics, the car received a rigid sports suspension and an inner trim made from an expensive genuine leather. The exhaust system was also replaced for receiving more esthetic sounding of the working engine.
