Engine mount the FIAT PUNTO (188) – information on part operation, installation, diagnostics, and service intervals
It is advisable to perform replacement of engine and transmission mounts on the FIAT PUNTO (188) car at a service station. During performing works you will need to demount and then adjust the accessories. It is easy to make a mistake during mounts replacement without corresponding experience.
You need to prepare plastic containers or polyethylene bags in advance, to put fastening elements into them. It is better to put fasteners of each mount into an individual container, and tag it using a marker pen. This will significantly ease and speed up further installation of the components.
Then you need to prepare the FIAT PUNTO (188) car to works performing. For this you need to set the car onto a servicing pit or a lifting platform, activate the parking brake mechanism, set wheel chocks under the wheels, and then lift the engine in order to reduce load on the mount, loosening the fasteners of the mount in advance.
For centering the holes for bolts in the engine, frame or the mount itself, a crowbar should be used which acts as a lever.
It is recommended to apply special screw locking agent onto surface of threaded connections which prevents their self-unscrewing.
During installation of the rear mount on FIAT PUNTO (188) car it is important that the arrow, marked on the surface of the mount, should be set along the vehicle motion direction.
Threaded connections must be tightened with a certain torque, in order not to damage fasteners during installation, and also to provide reliable fastening of the engine and transmission.

Start the vehicle engine, let it run idling, and then make a test drive. At the beginning, insignificant vibrations can be noticeable in the FIAT PUNTO (188) car. It is normal. But if they don’t disappear after some time, most likely some errors were made during parts replacement.
If the FIAT PUNTO (188) car engine vibrates more than it did before components replacement, you need to stop the car and let the engine cool down. After this, loosen mount fastenings, start the engine, and let it run idling for some time, in order to make the mounts take the needed position. Then you should perform final tightening of the mount fasteners.
