Volvo XC70The production of Volvo XC70 five-door station wagons was set up in 1998. Nowadays the company presented three generations and two facelifts of automobiles. The car’ assembly took place in Torsland, Sweden.
Volvo XC70 1998–2007In 1998 Volvo XC70 was presented to the market. It was originally the modification of Volvo V70 and then became an independent model. The distinctive feature of the exterior was the combination of station wagon and SUV characteristics. The front of the car captures the attention with its huge bumper, radiator and decorative grille with chrome-plated elements and narrow headlamps. The developers installed massive taillights, a stylish compact spoiler was located above the fifth door.
The interior of the automobile was laconic and original: the dashboard with drawing on it, light-colored lining of car, textured durable plastic and wood elements of decor. Wide comfortable seats were covered with soft leather. The big control buttons for different systems were located on the center console. The back seat was meant for three adult persons and was composed of three sections. Each section could be transformed by itself, allowing increasing the luggage capacity.
Standard equipage of the car included power windows, front seat heaters, and dual zone climate control system. As additional options were proposed: TV-set, inbuilt phone and also heavy audio system HU-803 with Dolby Surround Pro Logic with 12 speakers.
The second generation of Volvo XC70 was released to the market in 2000. The developers changed the front bumper in a minor way, keeping the general design concept and set up new fog lamps. Also tail lights were rebuilt, the bottom of which became visibly larger. The exterior has not felt any other significant changes.
A facelift took place in 2005 and as a result the cars got new headlights. Volvo XC70 were also decorated with a new massive bumper with a crash bar and modified railings were placed on the roof. Volvo XC70 started being equipped with a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
Volvo XC70 III generationIn March, 2007, at the Geneva Motor Show the third generation of Volvo XC70 was unveiled. The exterior of the vehicle has been totally changed. A modified bumper with air intakes and chrome-plated decorative planks as well as a stylish radiator grille with improved headlights on its sides were installed. The changes of the car’s rear part affected the baggage compartment door and taillights. Also the technical equipment of the car was significantly improved.
Volvo XC70 III generation faceliftThe updated Volvo XC70 cars were presented to the market in 2013. The developers installed the optimized headlights, outside mirrors with new bodies and LED side repeat flashers, as well as newly designed wheel disks.
There were more changes of the Volvo XC70’s interior. The developers set up a new steering wheel and a center console, a new Sensus multimedia system. They also used higher quality trimming materials. All the cars started being equipped with a Pedestrian Detection system, which detected pedestrians on the way of the car and measured the distance to them. That system could also activate the brake system by itself and ensured the safety of all road users.
