Info on OPEL SIGNUM model - the right selection of spare parts
Opel Signum
Opel Signum is a five-door hatchback produced by the Opel company from 2003 to 2008. It gained popularity in the European market primarily, in Great Britain it was known as Vauxhall Signum.
Opel Signum I generation
Before getting to the stock production, Opel Signum existed in the form of the concept car for six years. Prototypes were represented at motor shows in Geneva and Frankfurt in 1997 and 2001 respectively, initially serving only for tests of the new GM Epsilon platform. However after some in-depth research, the management of Opel decided to release the Signum model.
The basis of a new model was formed by the third generation of Opel Vectra from which a lot of things were borrowed: engines, transmission and suspension. The car had a long wheel base of the Epsilon platform. The body of the new car was 4636 mm long.
The passenger compartment of Opel Signum provided the comfortable placement of all the passengers. Even more expensive models did not have such space for the passengers of the back row. The FlexSpace system allowed to change passenger compartment’s space, increasing or reducing the size of a luggage compartment.
The design of a body of Opel Signum was bright and unusual. The dynamic type of nose was provided by the original shape of radiator grille, trapeze-shaped air inlets, round fog lights with bright borders. The Forward Lighting system was an innovative development of that time. Bixenon lights had the 15 degrees rotation angle and extra headlights were capable to turn by 90 degrees, they were intended for "blind" turns. The system is automatically activated at a speed below 50 km/h.
Opel Signum cars had impressive quantity of the options ensuring the maximal safety to the driver and passengers: the active head rests, the frontal and side air bags, pretensioners of safety belts and many other things.
Opel Signum I generation restyling
In 2005 Opel Signum underwent a facelift which affected front headlights and a radiator grille, but did not improve dynamics of sales of Opel Signum cars. Despite all efforts of marketing specialists and a set of model advantages, high price deterred the motorists. As a result, in 2008 Opel Signum was replaced by the Opel Insignia model.
