Mitsubishi Colt
Production of Mitsubishi Colt took place in 1960-2012. Assembling of the last generation was organized in Japan, the Netherlands, Italy and Taiwan.
Model 1960–1970
From 1960 to 1965 production of Mitsubishi Colt 600 in a sedan body continued. The car became one of the first representatives of the model range of the Japanese brand during the post-war period.
In 1962 at the ninth Tokyo motor show the premiere of Mitsubishi Colt 600 convertible concept, constructed on the basis of Mitsubishi Colt 600 sedan, took place. However two-door cabriolets did not come to stock production.
In 1962 Mitsubishi Colt 1000 sedan with increased dimensions was presented. In comparison with the Mitsubishi Colt 600 model, the new sedan became 435 mm longer, 80 mm wider and 50 mm higher. Length of wheel base was increased by 220 mm. In 1965 fastback with standard (Mitsubishi Colt 800) and long (Mitsubishi Colt Colt 1500) wheel bases debuted, and in 1966 and 1968 — sedans of Colt 1100 and Colt 1200. Production of the first Mitsubishi Colt cars continued till 1970.
Model 1978–2002
In February, 1978 in Geneva the European premiere of Mitsubishi Colt A150 took place. The model was produced in a three-door hatchback body, and since May, 1979, five-door hatchbacks were also available for sale. In July, 1982, there was a slight restyling of the car. Changes affected the front bumper. In the passenger compartment a new dashboard appeared. In 1983 sedans began to be manufactured also. This model was called Mitsubishi Colt in the European and Australian markets, and in Japan they were called Mitsubishi Mirage. Production of the Mitsubishi Colt A150 model continued till 1984.
In 1984-1988 the Mitsubishi Colt C10 model was produced. Modifications with diesel engines were available for sale for the first time. Also Mitsubishi Colt C10 Ralliart racing cars with unique exterior design and more efficient hardware were produced.
In 1988 Mitsubishi Colt C50 debuted. Only three-door hatchbacks were produced. The body got a more streamline shape. Changes affected front optics also. Cars began to be fitted with anti-lock brake system (ABS).
In March, 1992, at the motor show in Paris the presentation of the modernized Mitsubishi Colt CAO model took place, and in 1995 it was succeeded by the Mitsubishi Colt CJO car.
Model Z30
In 2002, the Mitsubishi Colt Z30 model debuted. The European premiere of the car took place in 2004. The car of new generation was constructed on the basis of the Smart Forfour car. The Mitsubishi Colt Z30 model was not on sale in Great Britain. Originally cars were produced in bodies of three-door and five-door hatchbacks, and in March, 2005, at the Geneva motor show the premiere of Mitsubishi Colt CZC coupe cabriolet took place.
In 2004 Mitsubishi Colt Plus was presented. The car was increased in length about 300 mm. In 2006 the presentation of the electric car Mitsubishi Colt MIEV took place. Same year the model was awarded the prestigious “Gold Wheel” (Das Goldene Lenkrad) award from the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
Model Z30 restyling
In October, 2008, at the Paris motor show the presentation of the updated Mitsubishi Colt Z30 car took place. The model began to be fitted with the modern system of lighting with the “Follow me home” function. The main advantage of the car was a spacious and ergonomic passenger compartment with adjustable seats. Control buttons of cruise control and a stereo system, placed on the steering wheel, provided comfort for the driver. In 2012 production of this model was stopped.
