Mercedes-Benz MB 100Release of the Mercedes-Benz MB 100 commercial vehicle was carried out in 1987-1996 at the plant in Vitoria, Spain. After the termination of production of the European model, these cars were released in Australia, Korea, China and in Vietnam. On the basis of the car, test models were repeatedly created: in 1992, 12 electric vehicles on the Mercedes-Benz MB 100 E chassis were used for service of the summer Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Mercedes-Benz MB 100 6311981 is considered to be the official date of production of Mercedes-Benz MB 100 though in the classical look the model appeared only in 1987. The car was offered in bodies of a passenger minibus, a cargo van and a pickup. Besides, the car was available with the short or extended wheelbase and with the different height of a roof.
The car had square headlights, a vertical radiator grille and rectangular shapes of the body. The minibus Mercedes-Benz MB 100 differed in the practicality: good visibility was provided with oversized windshield, and boarding of passengers or loading works were quite comfortable thanks to a sliding rear door.
On the basis of this model the tuning studio AMG in 1988 constructed the minibus of a business class Mercedes MB100D AMG. The car had leather seats, the powerful Hi-Fi audio system and heat saving glasses.
Mercedes-Benz MB 100 631 restylingsIn 1992 there was a restyling of Mercedes-Benz MB 100. In the updated cars the safety system was strengthened, and technical characteristics were also improved. Changes concerned an exterior also: headlights were increased in sizes and got a new shape, the discharge angle of a radiator grille was increased, lines of the body became more streamline due to the lengthening of the nose and change of a windshield discharge angle. The front bumper was enlarged for damping of blows at collisions. The car had the updated dashboard and a four-spoke steering wheel.
Same year on the basis of Mercedes-Benz MB 100 utility truck ten experimental electric vehicles were created. Tests were carried out on the island of Rügen at the initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Technologies of Germany.
Mercedes-Benz MB 100 in the markets of the different countriesAfter the termination of Mercedes-Benz MB 100 production in Europe, the model was actively produced in other countries. In Korea the car which with the updated body was produced till 2004 and was on sale under the name of SsangYong (Bm 661 series), and under the former name Mercedes-Benz MB 100. Since 2004, production was relocated to Vietnam where cars were manufactured by CKD method. In China this minibus is known as SsangYong Istana.
