Info on LAND ROVER DEFENDER model - the right selection of spare parts
Land Rover DefenderLand Rover Defender vehicles were being manufactured from 1983 until 2016. Cars were assembled in Great Britain, in Solihull (West Midlands County), also in Kulim, Malaysia. The Land Rover Defender was actively used during many expeditions: the ascent of Elbrus in 1997, the journey from Siberia to Alaska in 2008 etc.
Land Rover Defender I generationThe first generation of the vehicle was being produced from 1983 until 2007. Initially, the index 110 was used as a marking of the car, but one year later the index 90 and in 1985 – the index 127 were added (later it was changed to 130). These indices were used to mark the length of the wheel base. In 1990 a new name of a car was introduced. It was done simultaneously with the beginning of the Land Rover Discovery release in order to avoid any confusion and also to define clearly the difference between the purpose of the model’s use and the market segment to which it belonged.
Lightness and durability of a construction made this model extremely popular. An aluminum body on a bearer frame was designed in a classical military style. A strict and accurate geometry, broad wheel arches, a massive protective frame of the front bumper and round headlights were regarded as peculiarities of the Land Rover Defender exterior of the first generation.
The interior of a vehicle was simple and didn’t differ in ergonomics. On a control panel there were large index plates which provided a driver only with the most needed information.
Land Rover Defender of the first generation was available in such bodies as a three-door and five-door SUV, a two-door and a four-door pick up (there were also cabins available with one or two rows of seats) and a three-door van.
Land Rover Defender I generation restylingIn 2007 manufacturers added a few changes to the model of Land Rover Defender of the first generation. A new vehicle got an improved dashboard, to where a few sensors had been added. A central console was also established in the passenger compartment.
It was decided to remove folding seats, as far as their presence contradicted the legislative system of the European Union. The volume of the vehicle was reduced after that change: the SUV Land Rover Defender 90 turned to be a four-seater model, and the SUV Land Rover Defender 110 became a seven-seater.
Some changes affected exterior as well: a new hood got a small bulge to increase a room for a new engine. Constructors removed ventilating dampers under a windshield.
In 2011 a British company held the second restyling of the Land Rover Defender of the first generation. Vehicles began to meet the European safety standards due to changes. Major improvements affected a hardware.
Engineers took a decision to return a soft trim to the list of additional SUV’s options. Earlier this kind of trim could be placed on a special order only.
Land Rover Defender in the markets of different countriesIn Australia this model was being sold under the name Land Rover Perenties. In North America sales began in 1993. To adapt a vehicle to a local market, constructors slightly changed technical characteristics and exterior elements: extended rear lights and side-on indicators were mounted on a car. At the beginning of sales only the Land Rover Defender 110 was available, but later the Land Rover Defender 90 was also added to a sale.
Some countries also were engaged in production of twins of this car. Among them one can denote: Iran, Turkey, Brasilia, Pakistan, Malaysia and South Africa.
