Kia SoulKia Soul is five-door hatchback; its production started in 2008 and is still in process. There were two generations and one facelift presented for now. Car production took place in Korea and Kazakhstan. In 2009 car was winner of Red Dot Design Award for its unusual exterior in Germany.
Kia Soul II generationProduction Kia Soul model was presented on Paris Motor Show in 2008. Car seemed to be very large while it has rather compact dimensions (4105х1785х1610 mm). A special window line and a massive bumper caused it. Another specific feature of the car was a large road clearance – 165 mm.
Kia Soul cabin was notable for quality and style. Manufacturers created a specific design of front panel; they used bright materials for seats upholstery, and provided lots of pockets, niches and cup holders. Convenient steering wheel with three arms and transmission lever were leather-covered. Every driver was able to create his own interior design due to a great variety of additional options combining materials, upholstery colors and lighting units.
Kia Soul was one of the safest cars. In accordance with crash-tests of EuroNCAP system it got 5 stars for children safety. Car was equipped with window curtains and air bags, active head restraints and regulated seatbelts tensioners. TCS, ABS and BAS were included into the basic configuration.
Kia Soul I generation faceliftFirst Kia Soul generation facelift happened in 2011; as a result, car dimensions changed. Wheelbase became longer by 20.3 mm, and wider by 15.24 mm. Manufacturers preserved general design concept, changed front bumper and mounted headlight clusters between of which an improved radiator grille was mounted. Car also got new vertical tail lights. In order to provide better observability manufacturers decided to decrease front pillars thickness. Flex Steer system appeared in basic options list; it allowed to choose electric power steering mode.
Kia Soul II generationSecond Kia Soul generation was designed on the platform of Kia Trackster Concept, presented during Chicago Auto Show in 2012. Production car was presented on North American International Auto Show in 2013.
Specialists of German, American and Korean studios worked at exterior design. They preserved well-known features of model, improved and stylized interior following fashion trends. Kia Soul got new headlights with integrated LEDs of daylight lamps. Radiator grill remained keystone while cell forms changed. Rear part of a car was decorated with new stands of sidelights, which were in harmony with massive bumper.
Kia Soul compartment remained comfortable and became more spacious: there was more space for legs – additional 20.3 mm, door openings were 12.5 mm higher than seats height of predecessors. Side electric heated mirrors, powerful audio system, extensible adjustment of steering column were included into the basic configuration.
