Jeep Compass
Jeep Compass is the first crossover in the history of the Jeep brand. It has been produced since 2006. Assembling of these cars is carried out at the plant in Illinois, the USA.
Jeep Compass I generation
The Jeep Compass concept car was presented at the international North American auto show in Detroit in 2002. Four years later, the stock five-door crossover under the same name was unveiled in Detroit.
Exterior of Jeep Compass cars combines both the traditional Jeep elements, and characteristic features of modern European crossovers. The classical radiator grille with seven slots, round headlights and trapezoid wheel arches combine harmoniously with an imposing power bulge on the hood and a sloping windshield. Prominent wings made the car look massive and stable on the road.
As for the interior, it is executed in deliberately rough style: it had sharp, rugged outlines of the front panel, details made of hard plastic, fabric seat upholstery in the basic package. Front seats did not have a lot of settings, they are slightly hard, and also, as already traditional for Jeep cars, did not have the expressed side support. The standard volume of boot equaled 458 liters. The rear seats could be folded into the floor so the capacity could be increased up to 1269 liters.
Jeep Compass I generation restylings
In 2011 at the auto show in Detroit the updated Jeep Compass was unveiled. Specialists of the company worked at eliminating shortcomings of the crossover. Jeep Compass cars were exposed to criticism for clumsy design therefore after restyling their appearance became more imposing. Designers changed the shape of the hood and fenders and modernized head optics. The front bumper began to be made of unpainted plastic. The interior of the car was not considerably changed: lines of the front panel became smoother, instrument displays were updated. Instead of hard plastic, more expensive soft materials began to be applied to the interior trimming. The most obvious changes affected the steering wheel which became more massive and multifunctional.
The second restyling of the model took place in 2013. Changes were minor and less noticeable this time: the radiator grille was transformed a little, the optics got updated, mirror cases began to be painted in body colour, disc design was changed. Inside the car innovations concerned front seats only - they had built-in side airbags.
