Jaguar F-Type

History of Jaguar F-Type creation

The Jaguar F-Type concept car was shown in 2000 at the motor show in Detroit. The design in many respects reminded of Jaguar E-Type exterior: the same oval headlights and radiator grille, a signature power bulge on the bonnet, a streamline body, the raised tail with round lights. The nose of the car was an integral structure. Stock production of Jaguar F-Type was intended to begin in 2002, but for financial reasons the project had to be postponed. The Company returned to it only a decade later.

In 2011 at the motor show in Frankfurt the concept car under the name Jaguar C-X16 was shown. This car became a prototype of stock Jaguar F-Type which debuted in 2012 at the Paris motor show. Initially the model was produced in a roadster body. In 2013 at the motor show in Los Angeles the official premiere of Jaguar F-Type coupe took place.

Sweeping lines of the body, sculpted side panels, impressive air inlets, large bumper, outlined wheel arches, narrow back headlights and low road clearance — all these features indicated sports character of the car. A distinctive feature of the exterior were the door handles with the servo-gear hiding in the body. Also cars had a sliding spoiler.

The interior of the car was stylistic continuation of an exterior. Sports seats with well developed lateral support were trimmed by leather and were decorated with a double stitch. Buttons of important systems control were located on the steering wheel. At choice of buyers, the interior design was offered in several colours. The interesting decision was adjustable illumination of the passenger compartment – the color could be chosen depending on mood.

Jaguar F-Type cars repeatedly became owners of prestigious awards. In 2013 the car received the "Sports car of year" award at the Festival of Speed which is held annually in Goodwood estate, Chichester, Great Britain, since 1993. The same year the car was recognized as the cabriolet of year according to the BBC TopGear magazine, and also got the World Car Design of the Year award. The American magazine Autoweek considered Jaguar F-Type the best premiere of 2013. In 2014 the car received the "Cabriolet of the year" award at the "Car of the Year in Great Britain” competition.
