Fiat StiloFiat Stilo cars were manufactured at the Fiat plant in Cassino (Italy) from 2001 to 2008 and were sold in the European market. For sales in South America, Fiats Stilo was assembled in Betim, Brazilia, from 2002 to 2010.
Fiat Stilo I generationThe Stilo 3-door and 5-door were launched in 2001, at the Geneva Motor Show, in four years the model line was extended with Fiat Stilo Multiwagon in a station wagon body.
The Fiat Stilo model replaced the old-fashioned Fiat Bravo/Brava . Designers wanted the new car to become more "European" therefore model was designed in New Edge style, extrinsic for Fiat. However, new exterior of the car was not to the everyone’s taste.
Fiat Stilo became the first car where the revolutionary TRW Column-Drive Electric Power-Assisted Steering technology was applied.
Despite a wide range of engines, all of them were exposed to criticism as underpowered for the middle class car, and the car, in turn, had an excessive weight. Semi-automatic transmission operations caused complaints also.
Fiat Stilo faced great competition: middle class cars were represented in a model range of each producer. It was difficult to the firm famous for its subcompacts to compete in this segment: despite the participation of the famous racer Michael Schumacher in the Fiat Stilo advertizing campaign, cars were in poor demand in Europe.
Fiat Stilo I generation restylingRestyling of the model in 2006 became an attempt to improve the situation in the European market. Changes concerned a front bumper, a radiator grille, a badge shape. Front turn sygnal repeaters were relocated from fenders to the rear-view mirrors. The tail of Fiat Stilo was also changed - there were a new bumper, lights, and two exhaust pipes of a trapezoid shape. The interior of the car changed slightly.
In 2007 the Head Office of Fiat decided to cease the production of this model and to replace it with the new Fiat Bravo. Nevertheless in Brazil Fiat Stilo presented only by a five-door hatchback enjoyed popularity and was released till 2010.
