Daihatsu SirionDaihatsu Sirion are five-door hatchbacks produced from 1998 to 2007. Two generations of the car have been presented to the market during this period. Assembly lines were located in Japan.
Daihatsu Sirion Ist generationThe Daihatsu NCX concept debuted during the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997. The series car was presented in 1998 during the Geneva Motor Show. Daihatsu Sirion was a joint project of Daihatsu Motor and Toyota, the specialists of which had great experience in building runabout cars.
Daihatsu Sirion is a compact five-door urban hatchback with a length of 3675 mm and a height of 1450 mm. The car had good driving characteristics due to elaborated suspension and braking systems: disk brakes and a shock absorber strut were installed on the front wheels, with drum brakes and coil springs on the rear ones.
The exterior of Daihatsu Sirion could be called stylish and dynamic. The front part of the car was decorated by almond-shaped headlights. Chrome moldings have been installed along the body, on the front bumper and on the car’s doors. Fog lights were installed on a wide body kit.
The interior of Daihatsu Sirion fully reflected the company’s idea of creating a practical, every-day car for a wide market, including women drivers. The passenger compartment was extremely comfortable - a large area of glazing ensured exceptional view angles. The steering column height could be adjusted, the dashboard was practical and easy to read, the gearbox lever was installed on the central console.
Daihatsu Sirion IInd generationIn 2000, an update happened with the second generation of Daihatsu Sirion entering the market.
The developers made many changes to the design even while preserving the general concept of the exterior. New headlights were installed; instead of a single chrome grille, a narrow false radiator grille and a massive grille on a wide body kit appeared. The orange turn indicators were replaced by ones with a translucent body. Round rear lights replaced the tail light columns.
The list of the passive safety features consisted of four safety airbags, rigidity enhancers inside the doors, central power windows locking, three-point safety belts with locking clips and pretensioners, and a child seat attachment mechanism. Active safety was provided by several systems: an ABS, an electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) system, and a Brake Assist system.
Daihatsu Sirion on various marketsDaihatsu Sirion was produced under different names for the Japanese domestic market: from 1998 to 2004 as Daihatsu Storia, and from 2004 to 2010 as Daihatsu Boon. From 2011, cars sold in Indonesia and Malaysia were called Perodua Myvi.
