Info on DAIHATSU CHARADE model - the right selection of spare parts
Daihatsu CharadeDaihatsu Charade automobiles production ran from 1977 to 2000. In various years, assembly lines were located in Japan, Greece, South Africa and China. In 1979, the model was named Japan’s “Car of the Year”.
Daihatsu Charade 1977-1993Initially, Daihatsu Charade G10 were produced in a five-door hatchback body. At the end of 1978, three-door Daihatsu Charade Runabout hatchbacks entered production. The rear pillars of these cars’ bodies had two small side windows.
A visual hallmark of this model was its round headlights. Side-view mirrors were positioned on the front fenders.
A restyling of the car took place in 1981. Round headlights were replaced by square ones.
Since 1983, the second generation of these cars continued to be produced. The Daihatsu Charade G11 model was produced in the same body options as its predecessor, but had an improved suspension system. Even the standard steel wheel discs were changed for ones of lighter alloys. Both three- and five-door hatchbacks were offered in high and standard roof options.
In the summer of 1985, the second-generation car underwent an insignificant restyling. The car received rectangular headlights, instead of square ones.
In 1985, during the Tokyo Motor Show, the company presented the Daihatsu Charade De Tomaso 926R prototype, created in collaboration with the Italian automaker De Tomaso Automobili.
The car was intended to participate in the World Rally Championship of 1986. But the creators’ plans were never realized - the International Automobile Federation has decided to ban B-class cars from participating in the race due to a large amount of accidents happening during the 1985 Championship.
In 1987, a third generation of the hatchbacks, Daihatsu Charade G100/G102 debuted. A year lated, sedans began to be produced. Top modification contained 14-inch wheel discs and an electrically-operated hatch. Additional comfort was provided by power steering and air conditioning systems.
Another restyling of the third generation model took place in 1991. The car received altered tail lights and reflective panels. Changes also touched the design of the car’s interior - door panels began to be covered with fabric.
In 1989 and 1990, the Daihatsu Charade GTI sports car has successfully covered race distances during the British Lombard RAC Rally contests. The best results of the car were recorded in 1993 during the Safari rally, finishing on the fifth place in the overall ranking.
Daihatsu Charade G200/G201/G203/G213Between years 1993-2000, a fourth generation of the model has been produced. Initially, three- and five-door hatchbacks were produced, with sedans joining them in 1994. The car’s body became more streamline.
Daihatsu Charade G200/G201/G203/G213 restylingIn 1996, the model underwent a restyling. The radiator grille received an arc-like shape. In 2000, the car was succeeded on the market by Daihatsu Sirion and Daihatsu Storia.
Daihatsu Charade on various marketsIn China, Daihatsu Charade cars were sold under the Tianjin Xiali name and were produced by the FAW Tianjin Company. In the Netherlands, the fourth generation was called Daihatsu Valera.
From 1995 to 1998, Daihatsu Mira L500 cars were sold under the name of Daihatsu Charade Centro. In 2003, the Daihatsu Charade brand was renewed in Europe, Australia and South Africa: it has been used up until 2007 to denote the Daihatsu Mira L250 model. From 2007 to 2011, the Daihatsu Charade name was used to sell Daihatsu Mira L275 in South Africa. From 2011 to 2013, the same name was used by the Toyota Yaris XP90 cars on the European market.
