Chrysler PT Cruiser I generationIn 1999 the presentation of the Chrysler PT Cruiser stock model took place at the Detroit motor show. The car was constructed on the Neon platform and was released in a body of a five-door hatchback. In 2005 the car in a body of a two-door cabriolet went on sale and was produced until the end of 2007.
Bryan Nesbitt directed the development of original design in retro style. Previously two concepts were created: Chrysler Pronto Cruizer Concept in 1998 and Chrysler GT Cruiser Concept in 1999. Initially it was planned to release the model under the name of Plymouth, but it was prevented by abolition of a brand.
Chrysler PT Cruiser cars had front McPherson suspension and rear suspension on the basis of Watt's mechanism. The engine was located in the front part of the body and Chrysler PT was a front-wheel drive car.
In 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser won the competition "The Car of Year in North America" and entered the list of ten best cars of the year according to the Car and Driver edition.
Chrysler PT Cruiser II generationThe second generation of Chrysler PT Cruiser went on sale in 2006. The design of the chrome plated radiator grille was changed, the front and back optics were improved. The car had a new front bumper.
Some changes affected passenger compartment of Chrysler PT Cruiser of the second generation. The design of the central console and dashboard was improved. The producer equipped the car with the integrated MP3 audio system and analog dial watch. The company used better materials for an inner trimming.
Since 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser of the second generation was equipped with cruise control. Side airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and also satellite radio were offered as additional options. In July, 2010 the production of the car was stopped.
