This two-door coupe was presented to general public in 1980. For the next sixteen years the automobile company of Audi released two generations of model. Audi Coupe was laid off in 1996. These cars were produced in Germany.

The coupe was presented on the Parisian showroom in 1980. It was created on the basis of Audi 80 of the second generation from which it took an index — 81. Audi Coupe also resembled the predecessor superficially, but had more sports outlines of a body: the increased discharge angle of racks of a windshield, double head lights, wide black moldings on doors.

Interior design also indicated sport character of Audi Coupe 81/85 - a four-spoke wheel, stylish scales on the dashboard, sports seats.

Cars of the second generation were released from 1988 to 1996. The third generation of Audi 80 formed base for this car. But, unlike it, Audi Coupe 89/8B received more rigid body.

The exterior and an interior of the car changed substantially. The coupe gained traditional lines of sports models: the increased bores of air intakes, the painted brake calipers and tablet. Cars also had a stylish hatch on a roof. Treated features of the updated interior consists of the changed dashboard form, a bright fabric upholstery of interior and an advanced steering tube.

Audi Coupe restyling of 1991 had white indexes of turning movements and the updated form of headlights. In 1994 the car exterior was partially changed again. This time designers of the German company suggested to polish and paint bumpers and side mouldings in colour of a body. The radiator grill, the heel of a bumper and mouldings were recoloured in black.
