Set the car onto a servicing pit or platform. During replacement of the plug, you will have to perform works under the car bottom.

Use special agents and tools for unscrewing a rusted oil sump drain plug on the MERCEDES-BENZ M-Class (W163) car. First of all, you need to loosen the plug by two turns, using a wrench of corresponding diameter, and then, unscrew it with your hands. It is strongly not advisable to apply excessive effort during unscrewing: the component is made of soft material, and the edges of its head are very easy to be damaged, and this, most likely, will cause expensive repair of the oil sump.

Inspect the oil sump thread visually. If it is damaged, contact service station specialists for help: in some cases operability of the oil sump can be restored with the help of a repair kit. For this, a new thread is cut in the oil sump and the original plug is replaced with a part of a bigger diameter.

Be sure to replace the gasket of the oil sump threaded plug. It is a consumable. Repeated use of the sealing element doesn’t guarantee tightness of the oil sump.

A new component should be screwed in with torque specified in the vehicle technical documentation, otherwise connection tightness can be lost. A torque wrench will be necessary for this.

Check the level of oil in the engine lubrication system on the MERCEDES-BENZ M-Class (W163) car and top it up to the corresponding mark. Only oil of the same specification can be added. If you replace lubricant, always select those products which are recommended by the car manufacturer. It is prohibited to mix liquids different by contents, as well as to use inappropriate product, as you can damage lubrication system sealing elements and break down the engine itself.

Inspect the oil sump visually for leakages after a short distance test-drive. If oil is leaking from the oil sump plug, this means that errors were made during component replacement.
