Control arm bushes of the VW PASSAT Variant (3B6) vehicle are recommended to be replaced in a set per axle. The components are operated in similar conditions and have roughly the same service life. Replacement of only one bush may deteriorate vehicle steerability.
Never use a hammer or other impact tools for removing and installing suspension link bushes on the VW PASSAT Variant (3B6) vehicle: they may damage the bush itself and the suspension link. To press out the faulty components, you will need a special remover, for pressing new ones in — sleeves of proper diameter and a press. The components should be replaced at a service station.
Before installation, thoroughly clean dirt and rust from the mounting seat in the control arm.
If a control arm bush does not have outer metal sleeve, the mounting seat should be abundantly lubricated with a special product to avoid damage of the rubber or the polyurethane layer of the component during installation. For bushes made of rubber, special silicone-based lubricant is used, for the bushes made of polyurethane - lithium-based one.
During pressing in, when the bush enters the mounting seat by about half, it is recommended to ease the pressing effort for some time, so that the grooves of the component get smoothed out, and the component take proper position.
Final tightening of the bush fasteners should be performed when the suspension link is loaded, to avoid component turning. For this purpose, lower the car, or put jack stands under the wheels, and only then tighten the fasteners.

Make a test drive. It is advisable to choose a road with turns and small bumps.
