Plastic glues are used to join damaged bumpers, body panels, interior decorative elements and other parts. Using them, you set aside the necessity to replace expensive car parts.
What are the types of plastic glues
Based on production form all products are divided into 2 groups:
- Single-component. They are ready-to-use mixtures.
- Two-component. They are available as separate compounds: the active ingredient and activating agent.
As a main component the following agents can be used:
- Cyanoacrylate. Products based on such agents don’t contain solvents and are ideal for bonding small-size parts.
- Polyurethane. Such solutions are perfect for car exterior because they get very durable and flexible after curing and don’t lose adhesive properties in humidity.
- Epoxy agents. This type of auto chemicals produce the strongest bond and are high temperature and high pressure resistant.
How to use plastic glue
- Before using the product make sure it is compatible with the material of treated surface. For example, some types of epoxy glues should not be used to polypropylene items.
- Check the manual and follow manufacturer's recommendations. Maintain specified time intervals between applying the agent and bonding. With two-component agents take into account that generally components’ mixing can’t take more than 1 minute because polymerization starts in 5 – 6 minutes
- Get a clean napless fabric beforehand: it is handy to wipe compound residues with
- Store agents only at humiture specified by manufacturer. Thus, some agents maintain performance only at +2–8 °C.
